Determining a Business Model on Day 11 of the 30 Day Blog Challenge

Here we are on Day 11 of the 30 Day Blog Challenge.  Today we are looking at what our business model will be and whether we will be creating active and/or residual income.

Today is really where the 1 Page Business Plan comes in handy ūüėČ

My goal with this blog and the online part of my business is to work with women, with a focus on moms (cause that’s who I know ūüėČ ) and help them get back into their own life, their own skin, their own hearts through fitness, holistic nutrition and empowerment coaching. ¬†Mind. Body. Spirit. As women, as mother’s, we tend to get lost in our lives filled with taking care of everyone and get into the habit of putting ourselves on the back burner. ¬†We think ‘well, for right now I will focus on everyone else and when I have more time, then I will focus on me.’

What we tend to forget is that when we have time, there ends up being more work than if we had just taken time for ourselves all along.  Then we end up giving up.  Throwing our hands in the air and then continuing on in the life we created, not the life we truly want for ourselves.  Along with this, we also forget that by taking care of ourselves and loving ourselves first, we are better at everything!  Better moms.  Better wives.  Better friends.  Everything.

So, with that said, I plan to focus on selling myself.  I will offer myself, my knowledge, my experience and my love personally, one and one and in groups. I will also offer e books, pod casts, and self led courses to create residual income from my own products.

In order to really get the most out of this, I will also be selling for others, creating more residual income while also helping other business grow. ¬†This will allow me to not worry about the day-to-day and to really focus 110% on my clients and their personal journeys. I will use affiliate trust marketing to help create multiple revenue streams that don’t take too much time away from what I truly want to achieve.

Right now, I am working on a lot of projects.  Some individual, some partnered, all awesome.  They all have one common thread and that is helping people grow and change and live the life they want so bad to be living.  Mind. Body. Spirit.

One of these projects is a fitness studio, a brick and mortar business.  (eek!) With this business, I plan to get to a point where it runs well on its own and I can coach and train individuals, allowing me to give my clients everything they need, and most importantly, my undivided attention.

I am so SO excited about the direction my life is going. ¬†While it may not seem to be the life I want right now, I know that I am at least on the right path. ¬†It will be interesting to read these posts after 1 year has gone by…

Playing Catch up-30 Day Blog Challenge Days 9 & 10

I think I may have missed a few posts….

Well, let’s not dwell on the past! ¬†Let’s keep moving forward! ¬†For your delight and entertainment (I hope!), here are days 9 and 10 of the 30 Day Blog Challenge.

Day 9 | Act 2

Now that we have done a bit of the ground work, now it’s time for the nitty gritty work. ¬†For Day 9’s post, Natalie asked us whose online business we admire the most and why?

This is honestly a tough question for me to answer! ¬†I don’t have just one, there are so many wonderful, inspiring women with incredibly successful online businesses who I adore and look to when I need some guidance on my own journey.

The first one I would have to say is Sandy Krakowski from A Real Change.com.  I love her story, I love her vibe, I love her faith and her ability to share it openly and without fear of judgement.  She knows who she is, what she wants to do with her business and who she wants to help.  While also offering incredible ecouragement ans support, she also offers some great knowledge filled courses to help people learn to do their own copy, create their own websites and build thier own following or community. Her company is also run debt free which I think is a major accomplishment!

I have also been recently introduced to Crystal Andrus of SWAT, CrystalAndrus.com as well as her online magazine SimplyWoman.com.  I have done her 7 day podcast course as well as downloaded her 21 Day Sustain Success course.  In the future, I plan to take her SWAT program to become a Personal Empowerment Coach.  This will be one of the keys to creating the life I want to live.  Crystal has created an amazing, inspiring and comfortable community online that I am so happy to be a part of!

Another gal that I have been following is Kristin Sweeting Morelli. ¬†She is also incredibly inspirational and motivating, along with ¬†being incredibly matter of fact. ¬†Which is probably my favorite thing about her. ¬†I have just started following her within the last month or so and I have already learned so much. ¬†She is bright, well spoken and has a lot of really important (to me, anyway ūüėČ ) things to say.

There are of course so many other online businesses that speak to me including Nicole Graves, Young and Raw and so many more!

I’m so excited to be going through this process (even if I got a bit behind…). ¬†It’s so fulfilling to be able to start to see your dream and vision get more clear and start working for you!

Day 10 | Act 2

The One Page Business Plan. ¬†Thank you, Natalie, for this awesome tool!! ¬†I have written a few traditional business plans and have dreaded and cried my way through each one. ¬†Haha! ¬†So, when Natalie shared her One Page Business Plan, ¬†I nearly jumped for joy ūüôā Once I have it perfected, I will share it with you!

Day 10 of this 30 day challenge is all about making money online.  Not only making money online, but making money online while still staying true to yourself, your business and your goals.

The top 3 shared by Natalie were:

  1. Selling your own online products
  2. Selling someone elses products
  3. Advertising someone elses’ products (aka-affiliate marketing. ¬†Or Trust marketing ūüėČ )

After creating a rough draft of my one page business plan and having a good look at my mission, vision and values, I decided that I would us all 3 tools to generate a residual income for my business.  #1 and #3 are the ones that I will likely use the most, with #2 being something i use when I really believe in a product someone else is selling.

I have a few products in the works right now that I will be launching in the near future (once I get past the fear!). ¬†Some are my own and some are products I have partnered on with other people. ¬†I’m pretty excited to be going through this process! ¬†I watch other women (and men) do this online and think ‘Man, they have it all goin’ on! ¬†I wish I was like that.’ I know realize that all of the people were just like me at one point. ¬†Not sure what to do next, trying to align their goals and values this a lucrative business that can not only make them money, but also help as many people in a big way as possible.

So, I know it can be done.  People do it everyday.  People just like me, with fears, big dreams and even bigger hearts.

Time to go and work on my products!!

Tools & Resources…30 Day Blog Challenge Day 7

Today, Natalie asks:

Which key tools will you turn to regularly to maintain your mindset and how will you use them effectively?

Initially I felt like these tools needed to be online tools that I could use to keep myself in check. ¬†There are a lot of them out there. ¬†A lot! ¬†But as I searched and sifted and filtered through them, I realized that, while I am a quick learner and enjoy learning the ins and outs of social media, online tools, widgets, blogs…when it comes to my own personal accountability, I prefer to go old school.

Bound journals, dream boards made from poster board, glue and magazines kind of old school. ¬†I enjoy being able to sit with a cup of tea, (ok coffee, let’s be honest here), and writing in a journal. ¬†I have always loved it and I don’t see that changing anytime soon.

¬†While blogging is proving to me to be a great outlet online, I will always go back to my paper and pencil (I love me a freshly sharpened pencil…) for my more personal meant-for-only-me posts. ¬†I have so many journals going back years and years, I love pulling them out and reading my thoughts from back in the day. ¬†I laugh at myself often and think a lot of ‘what was I thinking??’s, but isn’t that the point? ¬†To reflect and learn?

journal and pencil

I also love old school vision and dream boards. (Who doesn’t love crisp poster board, dull scissors and Elmer’s??) ¬†I love having it posted in front of me when I am working in my home office. ¬†It keeps me on track by reminding me of where I am going and what my values are. However, I am going to get started with one online as well. ¬†I found one that I love here (thanks, Oprah!) ¬†I will most definitely share it with you here when I get it started.

Another tool I will use, and one that was suggested by Natalie at The Suitcase Entrepreneur, is staying in control of my health and well-being.

I love to run. ¬†I am a runner. ¬†Running is a release, a source of pride, a great way to spend a Sunday morning. ¬†This is a major tool I use to keep myself on track. ¬†It is the most effective form of exercise/therapy/goal setting/accountability I can use. ¬†Yoga, green smoothies, fresh juice and raw vegan diet will also help me stay clear and energized while I grow my empire ūüôā

I will, of course, be using a lot of online tools that are available to (soon to be) location independent chicas like me.  Things like SugarCRM, Mad Mimi, Fresh Books and more are all in my business tool kit.  But when it comes to motivating myself and keeping myself on track, I am going to stick with what I know works for me.

Off I go with my bound journal, poster board and magazines, living with purpose and changing lives like nobody’s business ūüėČ

Juice Cleanse | Day 2

Juice Cleanse Day 2.  So far so good!

I am following the Joe Cross 3 Day Weekend Juice Cleanse. ¬†The recipes are simple and tasty (mostly…I’m still getting used to drinking my tomatoes) and I don’t feel truly hungry. ¬†I think I am only craving food because I am used to snacking. ¬†All. Day. Long.

My favorite juice so far is the mid day Mean Green juice.  Probably because it is similar to the very first juice we ever made when we first starting to introduce juice to our daily diets.

Why am I doing this juice cleanse?

  • I am working towards a raw (or mostly raw) diet, this is a sort of ramp up to my next challenge (21 Day Raw Food Reset)
  • I have some issues (bloat, yucky skin…) I want to clear up and after some research I have found juicing/raw foods/green smoothies to be the best solution for me
  • I also believe that a short juice cleanse is a great way to reset your body

I did an elimination diet a while back and came up with a few things that seem to trigger it: wheat/gluten, sugar, some citrus (strawberries included! ūüė¶ ) along with a few other types of food. ¬†I also found that while on this elim diet, I was eating mostly fruits and veggies with some grains and legumes and I felt great. ¬†Lots of energy, I wasn’t craving my coffee like I usually would, my workouts seemed more effective, and as a side bonus, I lost the bloat weight I usually carry around!

Now that I am back to eating my rice cakes and coffee and chips (yes, chips.  Often!) I am feeling the bloat start to sneak back on and I am noticing a huge difference in my energy levels.  Now is the time for change!

I took some before pictures of myself, both of my body and of my skin, so that I can see the changes as the next month passes. ¬†I’m too chicken to post now so I will gain some courage and post soon…ish…maybe?

Next up: Priorities. 30 Day Blog Challenge Day 6

Now that I have my perfect day (or one version of it, at least) I now need to make my list o’priorities that will bring me closer to my goal life. ¬†What do I need to start doing now in order to get me to where I want to be?

Insert me pondering….

Ok, in no particular order, here is what I think are my next steps to living the life of my dreams…

First of all, I need to get down and dirty in the business of envisioning exactly what it is I want! ¬†Reading my Day 5 post again (and again…) I realize that the day I described is a lovely day. ¬†Perfectly simple and definitely makes me feel how I want to feel every day. ¬†But I also think when I wrote it I was holding back. ¬†I was allowing my in-the-box limitations cloud what I really want! ¬†In short, I wasn’t dreaming big enough!! ¬†So, step one, Create a clear and perfect vision of what I want out of life. ¬†To do this I will start a perfect day journal where I will write down all the real days I have that I deem as awesome, as well as the dreams and goals I want to achieve in my life. ¬†I am also going to create a dream/vision board and put it on my wall in my office. ¬†And take a photo with my phone so it is always with me to refer to.

Priority #2. ¬†I would like to be generating income from my blog (soon to be blogS…another project is in the works ūüôā ) ¬†To do this, I need to learn how to do this! ¬†Haha ūüėČ ¬†I have some ideas that are rattling around in my head so now it is time to put those into action. ¬†I’ll need to enlist the help of a pro and make a solid plan to get that moving forward.

And last (but not really least) I need to focus more on my studio.  Yes, while I dream of having a location independent business life, I am in the process of opening my own fitness studio.  This is a great opportunity for me right now and I am extremely excited about it!  It is not, however, particularly what I want for my future self. What it is, a great opportunity to learn and grow.  It is a huge stepping stone boulder on the path to where I want to end up. My dream is to be in a position of knowledge through books and life to be able to help others live the life of their dreams. Mind, body and spirit.

So there they are. ¬†My top 3 priorities for the next 30 days. ¬†Let’s do this!

Work. Play. And everything in between – 30 blog challenge day 5

Day 5 Question: What does your perfect day look like?

Ok, this one took me longer than anticipated to write. ¬†I think I just put it off because it seemed like a lot of work. In fact, I am writing it a day late ūüėģ It seems so simple and innocent at first, until I really started to think about what my perfect day would look like! ¬†I think the problem is is that I have so many versions of a perfect day, or perfect moments, that I didn’t know where to begin. ¬†So naturally, I began nowhere…

Here is my solution: just sit down and write. ¬†Don’t think, just write.

This morning I woke up around 5:30 am to a crisp, beautiful fall morning on the West Coast.  I love so much where we live here on the ocean front.  I got up out of bed, quietly so not to wake anyone else up in the house, let Sidney outside to do her own business and then headed to the kitchen to make a quick juice.

I grabbed my laptop and notebook and headed out onto the deck, overlooking the ocean.  It was chilly so I grabbed a blanket and my favorite cozy hoodie and got comfortable at the table outside with Sid by my side.  I took a sip of my juice (yum!), opened my laptop and checked my emails. It was so nice to see how many of my e books had sold!  Such a dream come true!  I caught up with my current clients and made sure they were all on track with their mind-body-spirit coaching programs, and then I read a few amazing and inspiring emails from some past clients!  I LOVE my work.  After that, I moved onto a few more emails from potential clients asking me to work with them.

After my emails are checked, answered and filed away, I sat back to enjoy the rest of my juice and take in our surroundings. ¬†It’s early fall now, my favorite time of year, and soon it will be too cold to sit out on the deck to work! ¬†I’m excited to take the boys apple picking later this afternoon, I hope they are too!

I finish ¬†my juice and head inside to tidy up the kitchen and make myself a decaf almond milk latte. ¬†After a couple of sips, I hear little feet coming down the hall. ¬†B is up and has decided to join me in the kitchen. ¬†Love that little guy ūüôā ¬†I make some breakfast for him and we sit together quietly for a few moments, until he decides he’s done being quiet and jumps into my lap! Pretty soon, everyone is up and eating which means it is my chance to head out for a quick run before it’s time to start our day.

I gear up, grab Sid and head out for an hour run. I get back feeling refreshed and I hop in the shower to start getting ready for our day out.  Today is my day off from work so it is a full day with my boys.  I get out of the shower, towel off and get dressed in some jeans, tank top and my warm, wool cardigan.  I grab some slip on shoes and head out to help the boys get ready.  I have a few more sips of my coffee.

Now that everyone is dressed and ready to go (with ¬†minimal whining and complaining) we get into the car and head down to the Apple Barn to meet up with Grandma and Grandpa for some apple picking. ¬†The boys are so excited! ¬†We pick more than our share of apples, laugh, run around the orchard until soon the crankies come out and it’s time for us to head out for a hot chocolate. ¬†We pay and load up our apples in the car and decide to head over to a local coffee shop for a treat for the boys. ¬†After we are all done, we make our way over the Grandma and Grandpa’s for a BBQ with the family. ¬†A few old friends come along as well and we have a great meal and visit.

I put the boys to bed and head out for a few drinks with an old friend. ¬†I love catching up with my long time friends, we don’t see each other often but it’s so great when we do! ¬†We have a little wine and little appy and chat for a couple of hours. ¬†Such a good time!

After a fun and quiet night out, I head back to my parents, pick up my sleeping boys and head home.  Once the boys are tucked in and settled in their own beds, I snuggle in to bed with a book and read myself to sleep.

Of course, mid way through the night, I have two little boys snuggled up beside me.

This is one version of a perfect day.  Simple, easy-going, real.  I love to visit with family and old friends and I love to snuggle with my boys!  A little bit of work and a nice run in the morning is a nice way to start the day feeling accomplished and ready to go.

The Day Before the Juice Cleanse…

A quick shot of our dinner on the eve before we begin our 6 day juice cleanse. ¬†Gluten-free, vegan blueberry protein pancakes. ¬†(The boys are having chocolate chip, of course ūüėČ )

We have also, over the last few days, been adding juices to our diet a couple of times a day.  I already find that I am craving them! We used to juice daily with our little Waring Pro juicer (who has since found a new home).  When we decided to start bringing juicing back, we picked up a new toy (insert Breville Beauty here, which by the way is on for $159 at our local London Drugs.  Yay!)

I will be blogging about our juice cleanse, and then about the 21 Day Raw Food Reset I will be embarking on.  There are many reasons for my decision to do this reset that I will expand upon while I am going through it.

Please stick around to be my accountability!  I will most definitely need some encouragement!!

Off to eat some vegan, gluten-free, blueberry pancakes! ¬†(sounds so much less appealing when I write it out like that…lol)

What’s on your dinner plate tonight?
